Attempts to collect debt not owed

I switched from XXXX to XXXX in XXXX of XXXX . While waiting on payoffs from XXXX , XXXX sent my final invoice to a collection agency. I called XXXX to verify and they stated it was real, so I called the Collection Company and based on the phone call and letter they offered me a settlement with XXXX . This was in XXXX , they stated I had time before they would report, but if I paid off I was clear and satisfied. When I received my money from XXXX I called back to the Collection Agency i n XXXX and took the settlement amount on XX/XX/XXXX . They stated they would send me a settled in full letter. I thought nothing of this until in XXXX they sent my information to credit bureau saying I still owed the other amount from settlement. I immediately called and wanted to know what was going on. They claimed oh it will clear in 90 days, well I was in the process of buying a home, needless to say it cost me a higher interest rate, plus I did not get the type of loan that would have saved me half the money I spent in closing cost. I was livid. I ended up contacting XXXX , who once again stated yes they had authorized the collection firm, but I still owed the balance, I could let it sit on my credit or pay it off. On XX/XX/XXXX , I paid the other amount and they promised the next day they would report to credit bureau that it had been paid in full. Needless to say again, I was lied to and by the way, the collection agency stopped answering the phone whenever I called. Finally on XXXX XXXX , I spoke again to a XXXX representative and she said it would be fixed in 5 days. I kept asking for a satisfied letter, which I have never received. After this process I feel like I was scammed and if I ‘m correct, when a collection agency takes over a claim, the company is paid. I paid both the collection agency and went back to XXXX and paid the balance. I would have gladly paid the full amount in the beginning, but was offered a false settlement that cost me a lot of time and money. NEVER AGAIN!
